Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a person-centred approach designed to support individuals with behaviours of concern, sometimes called challenging behaviours. These behaviours may:
- Impact a person’s ability to participate in their community
- Compromise their rights, dignity, or quality of life
- Pose a risk to their health and safety, or the safety of others
PBS seeks to understand the meaning behind behaviours and address underlying needs. By meeting these needs, we can reduce reliance on restrictive practices, increase community participation, and enhance overall quality of life for people with disabilities and their support networks.
